About the business
Born two decades ago from the needs of hardy British surfers, Finisterre designs functional and sustainable product for those that share a love of the sea. B Corp certified, a leader in its field and based in a cliff top location in St Agnes, Cornwall, as well as ten stores across the UK, Finisterre is a truly unique brand and career proposition.
We are looking for brave, honest, and driven individuals to join our crew as enter our next exciting stage of global growth.
Perched a few hundred meters from the crashing Atlantic, our cliff top HQ at St. Agnes’ Wheal Kitty Workshops in Cornwall is at the heart of our brand. Here we stay true to our original design ethos of functionality and sustainability brought to life in an understated style and identity, always remaining committed to product, environment, and people.
Culture and team are everything here – it’s a buzzing place to work, and we enjoy the natural environment and ocean on a daily basis.
This is an amazing opportunity for somebody to be involved with an authentic, purpose-led brand.
Why is diversity and inclusion important to your company?
Within product representation, we believe we’re well positioned, and have a responsibility, to represent diversity across all its forms (including, but not limited to, age, race, gender, and body size) to promote access to the ocean for all and break down barriers wherever they exist.
This is reflective of our goals for diversity in the workplace. We feel that it is important to not only increase diversity within the team that we hire, but to provide an inclusive workplace which enables our team members to feel comfortable being there authentic selves and where a difference in opinion or ideas is valued and used for positive collaboration.
What is the culture that you foster within your company?
Our headquarters are a stones throw from the crashing Atlantic and we’re lucky that we can step out and remind ourselves how important the sea is, and the role our product plats.
There are still wetsuits and surfboards by the door, dogs roaming around the office and don’t be surprised if we’re thin on the ground when it’s low tide and the surf is firing.
Each Tuesday we encourage team members to start their day an hour later to spend time by the sea. We then all come together for an all hands meeting for company updates.
We offer flexible working, including hybrid/remote working and part time hours, and a range of wellbeing benefits, such as yoga, surf lessons, and access to a free private and confidential counsellor.
How do you support personal development?
Taking time to develop ourselves is central to our values at Finisterre. As a growing business there are constant opportunities to expand our skill sets and learn new things in our roles.
We have various L&D resources for employees to use including Management 101 training, a culture toolkit created for us by the Talk It Out app, and Culture Amp, our system which is a key resource for development, facilitating regular structured 1 to 1’s, annual reviews, goal setting and continuous feedback.
