A Day In The Life of an Intern at Fred Perry
A Day In The Life of an Intern at Fred Perry
Fred Perry, known for its creativity and cultural impact, gave mentee Precious a unique chance to get behind the scenes of the iconic brand through an internship secured via Fashion Minority Report’s mentoring scheme. With a background in fashion communications and diplomas in fashion design and art, Precious is passionate about creative marketing and photography. This experience has given her a fresh perspective on the industry she’s eager to make her mark in.
During her time with the brand team, Precious got to see firsthand how campaigns for Fred Perry’s 2025 collections come together. From stylists and photographers to graphic designers and brand managers, she observed how every part of the team works seamlessly to create something special.
For Precious, this internship has been an opportunity to build on her studies while discovering exciting new possibilities for her future. Inspired by her growing passion for creative marketing, we joined her behind the scenes of a Fred Perry campaign photoshoot, where she shared a glimpse into a day in the life of an intern at the iconic brand.
8am: I started my day by heading to the studio and meeting the team. As the day began, everyone was making final preparations for the shoot. The model was in hair and makeup, while the lighting technician set up and tested the lighting. The photographer conducted test shots with the model to ensure everything met the team’s expectations. These test images were then sent to the Head of Brand for approval before we officially began shooting.
10am: Once the model finished hair and makeup, he changed into the first outfit for the shoot. The stylist selected and styled the outfit with accessories from the new collection, while her assistant prepared the next look by steaming and organising the pieces. The model then went on set, and the team began shooting.
11am: Throughout the shoot, the stylist and the hair and makeup artist remained on standby to make any necessary adjustments, ensuring everything stayed polished and perfect.
12pm: As the shoot progressed, I took the opportunity to speak with James, the Brand Creative Manager, about the extensive preparation required for shoots. He explained how the team delegates different responsibilities, from lighting to post-production, and finally to incorporating the graphics. I found this discussion fascinating, as every company has its unique approach to managing such processes.
2pm: After lunch, I spent time with Emma, the Graphic Designer, to learn more about her role in the project. I observed how she worked on integrating the graphics into mock-ups for store placements. It was fascinating to see the creative vision take shape in a tangible way and to understand the intricacies of her workflow.
4pm: I also attended some remote meetings, which provided further insight into the collaborative nature of the team. This experience was incredibly insightful. Although I had studied similar processes at university, seeing them implemented on a professional level was invaluable. It gave me a deeper understanding of the many roles involved and how meticulously each element is considered. Industry experience like this not only reinforces my learning but also helps me envision the paths I could pursue in the future.
6pm: By the end of the day, the shoot wrapped up successfully. I said my goodbyes to the team, reflecting on what a productive and enriching experience it had been.
