A Day in the Life: of a Model Agent
Hannah Sneath has worked at Select Model Management for 22 years. “I joined Select after studying for a fashion degree,” she explains. “I stumbled over the job application via the ES magazine job section! After numerous interviews, I started at Select as a junior booker, gradually working my way up over the years to becoming a model agent, working across main board, talent and have now settled onto the New Faces – where I love searching, nurturing and developing new talent.” With such a wealth of experience within the modelling industry, she’s found working with those just starting their career to be what she enjoys most. “I love working with creative young talent, it keeps me young!” She explains. “I’m now a mother, and this has brought about a positive, nurturing dimension to my position as a New Faces booker. My main role is scouting for new models. I enjoy being out and about looking for new talent on the streets, at festivals and at gigs – you name it I am there. Then the next steps are developing the talent and getting them ready to be launched into the industry.”
Hannah’s tips for being a great model booker? “I started at the bottom and worked my way up; it’s a job you learn only within an agency. So go for any opportunities and be prepared to work hard and be enthusiastic,” she says. “Organisation is key, as well as knowing your fashion. Familiarise yourself with photographers, stylist’s, new publications, models and designers.”
Learn more about a typical day (as they constantly change) in a model agent’s life below.
9:30am: My working day starts at the Select office; checking and replying to emails and sending model selections for new potential jobs and tests.
10am: One of our New Faces models pops in for a chat, new digitals and to discuss the plan for the next fashion show season.
10:30am: Catwalk training with that model in the Select office and our in-house catwalk!
11am: Zoom call with an international potential model.
11:30am: I have a meeting with a girl I scouted and her parents to meet the New Faces team.
12pm: I head back to my computer to check for any feedback from earlier emails.
12:30pm: I pop out to grab some lunch.
1pm: I meet a new testing photographer to check out their work in person.
1:30pm: I go out scouting for the afternoon. As our agency is central it’s easy to pop to Oxford Street, visiting shops such as Brandy Melville, Urban Outfitters and Primark! It’s a good scouting ground!
5pm: I’m back at the agency. I check in with the New Faces team, and choose some digitals of the girls who came in earlier for the day. I then organise the New Faces girls for the following day and check on any confirmed jobs.
6pm: Leave to go home!
